One morning as a drove my children to school, I came upon a street where a cat meliciously bantered a little black bird.  I came to a red light.  From my side view mirror, I watched.  Over and over again, like a game, the cat pawed, chased, and stalked the bird.  I couldn't help thinking, "Why doesn't the bird just fly away?"

Then, after checking to make sure the light hadn't turned yet, I looked again in my mirror.  The bird flapped and fluttered, and made it's way off the side walk onto the street.  One wing never flapped, and there was my answer.  Perhaps this bird had fallen, or perhaps the cat injured one wing, and it couldn't fly away if it wanted.  It wasn't fast enough to escape the sly manuavers of the cat.

There I was sitting inside my car, waiting for the light to change, and allowing this little bird to be the prey of the cat.  So as the light turned green, and I went further down the street, I asked myself, "What does it matter?"  What did one little bird matter?  If I would have stopped, I doubted the bird would have allowed me to help it.  To the bird, like the cat, I was just as scarry.  Even if I caught the bird, where would I take it?

The bird was long gone by the time I turned into my driveway, but my back seats where not empty.  My youngest looked back at me from a carseat.  What did one little bird matter, I thought again, one little bird, one little child, one adult at some point in our lives we are all the same.  We all face some sort of struggle.

Yet, struggles are excately what we need in our life.  If we were to go through our life without obstacales in our way, we would miss the opportunites presented for us to learn, to grow, and draw strength from those experiences.

I doubt the bird would agree with me.

I don't now know what events lead to the little bird falling to the clutches of the cat.  I do know, however, if that little bird got away, then it will be much the wiser the next time it comes face to face with the same situation.

So I say to you all:

Give every opportunity, good or bad, a chance to prove itself beneficial in your life.  Leave no room for regrets, and never forget the power, the freedom, and the success struggle can bring to your life.
